Oranges in a Basket

Our local Citrus Art Show is coming upon us. I began the projects early enough to have them completed already but with holidays, testing, funeral and other reason some of my classes did not met have left some of my classes behind. My first grade project was my favorite but has been my most challenging in directions. The preparation was fairly simple but putting it together to make the finally piece has made me experience some frustrations.

Day One: student used white and orange tempra paint to create the paper we will cut the oranges from.

Students also used a piece of cardboard to make vertical lines on a brown piece of construction paper. This will be the paper we cut the basket from.

Day Two: students will use a pattern for the basket and orange to cut their pieces. I used a lid to create the orange. For the basket and handle I drew it by hand. The also used oil pastels to add detail to the oranges and basket.

Day Three: students will complete it by putting all the pieces on a black piece of construction paper. I have had the studnets pick one of the 6 oranges (their best one) to glue in front of the basket. I modeled how to put glue on the back of the basket but not all the way to the top so we could slip the oranges in the basket. Once the basket was glued down they glued their best orange to the right of it. We carefully sliped the other oranges in the basket overlaping them and making sure they didn't hang out the sides of the basket. This was my most diffcult day but overall we had success.

Stay tuned for the finished product!
