I used an idea from
Art Fun! Students used marbles placed in paint to create and abstract design similar to Jason Pollock. I introduced them to Pollock's art work and how he doesn't place the paint brush on the canvas but splatters and drips his design. I new kindergarten would love this project of rolling marbles in paint and paper. I had some aluminum pans and sheets. I gave the pans to the tables I knew may need a taller side to ensure the marbles stay in the pan. I still had a few run away marbles but the kids quickly recovered and put them back. I say this was successful and fun to watch.
I placed a plastic spoon in each color to help the students extract the marble.
After realizing if the students placed all the marbles in one pile they stick together and don't roll around as easy. My second class I instructed to put the marbles in different places on the paper before rolling.
Here are some students rolling their marbles around and creating their abstract art.
When they finished rolling them around I instructed them to place the marble back in any color by then the color had rolled off and did not cause any color mixing.
