Kindergarten: Citrus Flowers
Materials:
12 x 18 yellow paper
circle sponges (2 for each table)
leaf stamps
orange, light pink, and green tempra paint
green construction paper cut into strips of different lengths
oil pastels (white, light green, yellow and orange)
To Prepare: I cut sponges into circles of different sizes. On a oval platter I had one sponge in the orange and another one in a light pink on the opposite ends of the platter. The pink will represent a grapefruit. I also squirted a little green between these two colors on the platters with two paintbrushes. I did not put the leaf stamps out until we were at that point.
Week One
Step 1: Have students glue the green strips (we only did 8) on the yellow background from the bottom like stems.
Step 2: Using the sponge have them place the sponge on top of the stem using orange and light pink. We did an even number of stems to help them know they will make 4 orange and 4 pink flowers.
Step 3: Bring leaf stamps to tables, students will paint on the green onto the stamp. Stamp onto paper about 8 times, one for each stem.
Step 4: Let dry
Week Two
Prepare: put oil pastels in a cup for each table
Step 1: Using white oil pastel draw a circle inside the orange and pink circles aroudn the perimeter.
Step 2: Draw a line down the middle, vertically. Draw a line down the middle, horiztonally (like a + sign).
Step 3: Draw a line diagonally, left then right (like an X).
Step 4: Using the green oil pastels highlight the leaves.
Step 5: Using the orange oil pastel add a circle sun, where ever it will fit. Highlight the sun using the yellow oil pastel
