The New Kiln

At the end of the 2010-2011 school year my kiln died. It had lived for 25 years and served us well. Many projects were fired in this kiln. Unfortunately I was in the middle of firing a few items. Last year went by and we didn't get in clay projects done since it was still not working. At the end of the year I was informed the school was buying a brand new kiln, YEAH! Then even better the company upgraded us to a digital kiln. Now I was super excited until they delivered it and I realized I don't know how to use a digital kiln. I was used to the old school knobs. But the company was very good at allowing me to call and run through the directions. This week as we were planning, cleaning, preparing, and meeting I was able to fire projects from 2 years ago. I was so happy when I heard the kiln turn off at the end of the school day compared to having to fire one project throughout several days since I had to turn it off when it wasn't done at the end of day.
Such a beauty!

Project from 2 years ago. Hopefully my students are still here to paint them.

Art Majors Bowls for Hunger. Luckily a few teacher's kids are in this group.
Just trying to remember whose intials are on the bottom of the bowls.
