The Art Room

My post have been few and far between. Last year at this time I was pregnant, only 20 weeks but I got tired easy and just lost my motivation to pick up the camera and snap a few photos. Well now my baby girl is about 8 months old and my motivation to get my blog back in working order has come back. I have snapped a few shots of my room. I have really cleaned house this summer. The storage room was emptied and restocked in stackable containers with labels. The shelves are very tall, so I need to be able to easily stack all the supplies back there. Also having taken one maternity leave I know how important it is to have items labeled for someone new coming to teach and not knowing where everything is. So I am preparing for my second maternity leave, which is no where in the future. Now when it is that time, I can focus on getting lessons typed not organizing materials.

Each table has their own small table, this will give us more rooms for the classes of 29 kids. They have a pencil basket, scissor bucket and marker case. The trash can will be under each little table.

The spinning book case was removed since kids just wanted to play with it and the books kept getting stuck in the slots.

Paintbrush and sponge area on back counter. We got some new paintbrushes to use. With more students we need more brushes.

All paper came in as 18x24, and we use 12x18 size paper majority of the time. I have been busy cutting paper and still have lots more to do.

Student and teacher paper area. Have to label which is student because they will take whatever they see.

Cubbies that have teacher's name. All dry work comes off the drying rack (to the left) and goes in the cubby. When they have completed the project it is placed in the portfolio to hand to the teacher.

Many students finish early, so I have art centers ready for them to take off the shelf and to their seat. I also tutor 2nd grade in the morning and while I am doing small groups the other students are in their centers.

  1. I just found your blog! I love your ideas. Have you ever written about your art centers? I am trying to get more ideas and would love to hear about yours.
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. I don't believe I have ever written about my art centers. I have tweeked them over the few years due to how well they hold up and if the kids enjoy them or not. I will have to compile a list with a description and blog about it. Thanks for the idea!
