Second Grade Pumpkin Pastels

After creating pumpkins with Kindergarten I was interested in finding another reason to draw them. I also was looking for an activity to use chalk pastels. First students drew the pumpkins with permant marker. The marker allowed us to not worry about mistakes and to move forward. The next class I demonstrated how to use the different orange and yellow chalk pastels to make multi demisonal pumpkin. We used dark orange to outline a section of the pumpkin, next to the dark orange they used gold or light orange and added yellow last. Leaving a white middle to blend the colors into. Students used their fingers to blend the orange and yellows together. Slowly they blended their pumpkins and moved onto the leaves, sky and grass. Stay tuned for some finishe pumpkin patches.
