Paint Along with the Art Teacher

I had a dream to create a fundraiser that will allow students to step out of the normal classroom procedures and materials and feel like real life artist. It began with purchasing 15 of my own table top easels, permission from administration and a lot of pinning on Pinterest to find the perfect canvas paintings.

I wrote a letter for parents, handed them out to teachers and made a short video for teachers to show the students to get them excited. Most importantly creating the example of the painting to hang in the library for advertisement.

For my first group I decided upon an owl. Mainly because I had painted one with my daughter and we got quite a few compliments on the final product.

I picked two dates, 15 easels available for each date. I wasn't sure if I would have anyone sign up, I was a little nervous.

Papers were returned slowly but surely and I had my first class at 12 and my second class at 9. This was perfectly fine with me, since they were my guinea pigs. I wasn't sure how I was going to pull this off, what was I going to say, what order would we paint in, etc...

They students were great and it didn't bother then that I was learning with them. It was a great experience and I am looking forward to next month's Paint Along with the Art Teacher class with 2nd grade.

Artfully Yours,
Mrs. Lawson
